Wednesday Reflection - December 18, 2024

December 18, 2024

Dear Friends,

Well, we have one week till Christmas! Are you prepared? I’m not talking about presents and decorating, but are you ready to welcome Jesus on Christmas? Advent has been a time of preparation, and no matter how successful we have been in completing our Advent practices, the Lord Jesus comes to bring us PEACE, JOY, AND HOPE!

Speaking of HOPE, I am happy to say that on December 24, I will arrive in Rome. This is the day the Pope will ceremonially open the Holy Door of St. Peter’s Basilica, which signifies the opening of The Holy Year of Hope, (also known as the Jubilee 2025). The theme of the jubilee year is, “Pilgrims of Hope.” The jubilee year is a time to renew our trust in God, deepening our faith life while strengthening our own relationship and that of our world. Let us not forget Creation and care for our World.

In an article published on Catholic Life, November 19th, they offer the following ideas:

How to participate in Jubilee 2025

  • Make a pilgrimage to Rome. Some dioceses, parishes and other organizations will be coordinating pilgrimages, but you may also go on your own.
  • Participate in a local celebration of the jubilee. Some dioceses, parishes and other organizations will coordinate local celebrations for those unable to travel to Rome.
  • Obtain the Jubilee Indulgence through one of the other means (works of mercy and penance, making a pilgrimage to your cathedral, etc.).
  • Serve as a jubilee volunteer. Applications are available online.
  • Pray for the pope, the Church and all who take part in the jubilee.

Here is the Jubilee prayer they have posted:

The Jubilee Prayer

Father in heaven,
may the faith you have given us
in your Son, Jesus Christ, our brother,
and the flame of charity enkindled
in our hearts by the Holy Spirit,
reawaken in us the blessed hope
for the coming of your Kingdom.
May your grace transform
us into tireless cultivators of the seeds
of the Gospel.
May those seeds transform from within both humanity and the whole cosmos
in the sure expectation
of a new heaven and a new earth,
when, with the powers of Evil vanquished,
your glory will shine eternally.
May the grace of the Jubilee
reawaken in us, Pilgrims of Hope,
a yearning for the treasures of heaven.
May that same grace spread
the joy and peace of our Redeemer
throughout the earth.
To you our God, eternally blessed,
be glory and praise for ever.
Amen.

My prayer for you this coming year is that you can enter the “Pilgrimage of Hope” and receive all that God wants to give you. Why not put this prayer in a special place so you can say it daily. Praying for you all as I journey to Rome.

Till next week,

Sister Theresita
