Wednesday Reflection: September 29, 2021

September 29, 2021

Dear Friends,

Time flies when you are having fun or writing a reflection every week! I was thrilled when on Sunday we said our evening prayers and I realized that this was the second week of prayers and Psalms. Why? Well, I just love Monday’s first psalm, which is Psalm 42.

“Like the deer that yearns for running streams, so my soul is yearning for you, my God. My soul is thirsting for God, the God of my life…”

That is why I chose to use a picture that Sister Francesca Witkowska painted for me for my 50th Jubilee (eight years ago!). I also truly feel that myself and many of you have experienced the feeling of yearning for God, for completion. To thirst is an experience we have all had and so the image is vivid.

This week we began our RCIA (Rite of Christian Initiation) process. I love working with this group of team presenters and candidates. The people who join us are thirsting to know more about God, our faith, and how to continue living a good Christian life in today’s world. All of us tend to soak up the words of wisdom that are shared and put them into action. They remind me what being Catholic is all about. We are never too young or old to grow in our faith.

I think it would be good to look at the things we thirst for. Is it power, success, money, possessions, to be recognized, or to have a carefree life? Perhaps we may need to remind ourselves where all our gifts come from and thirst for the source of life, of ALL things! What a different world this could be if we all thirsted for respect and reverence of each other? If we thirsted to be kind to others not counting the cost? If we thirsted to encourage people instead of putting them down? The list can go on and on.

Why not pull up Psalm 42 and recite the whole prayer and create a list of the things you thirst for. List the good with the not so good, and see where you need to grow. I have already started my list and I’ve got a lot of work to do.

“Like the deer that yearns for running streams, so my soul is yearning for you, my God. My soul is thirsting for God, the God of my life…”

Till next week,

Sister Theresita

P.S.: Happy Feast Day to all those who celebrate the Great Archangels, Michael, Raphael, and Gabriel!
