“Sir, we wish to see Jesus.”
As I prepared to write this reflection on the Gospel, It occurred to me that this is the Fifth Sunday of Lent and one of the Scrutiny Sundays for those who are ‘seeking Jesus’ to know more of Who He is and how present He is in their lives. So, as we move closer to the holiest of weeks... Holy Week, I offer you a part of an essay, The Lamb Redeemed by the Sheep written by His Holiness Pope Benedict XVI, and encourage you to meditate on these words during this week:
When we look at Christ, the Lamb who was slain, we see heaven opened.
When we look at Christ, the Lamb who was slain, we know that God acts.
When we look at Christ, the Lamb who was slain, we are immune to ultimate fear.
Even if we get into the situation of the Lamb, for there we are in the safest possible place.
Whether you are a cradle Catholic or preparing to be baptized at the Easter Vigil, take it upon yourself to pause in these days and meditate, pray, see, and hear our Jesus in His suffering and in His glory. The following questions may help your reflection.
+ Where do you see Christ Slain?
+ Where do you see God act?
+ Where do you see the face of God in His suffering and in His Glory?
In closing, I invite you to listen to a recording titled “Open My Eyes, Lord” by Christopher Duffley, an autistic boy born blind, now age 23. Christopher’s mother has deep faith which she passed on to her son and now he is an accomplished singer of faith songs. Please listen and pray, you will not be disappointed, I promise.
