Acts 10:34a, 37-43
Col 3:1-4
Jn 20:1-9
Happy Easter! At this glorious time, we see a contrast between the joy of the Resurrection and the excruciating suffering of families everywhere. Daily reports echoing outright disrespect for others reflect the ways we need the Resurrection. We need to experience the birth, life, mission, passion, death, and resurrection of Jesus, who knew the same struggles we do.
Born in a cave, learning later that innocent children died because of him, fleeing Bethlehem, being homeless in Egypt, and living separately from relatives until moving to Nazareth all reflect the experiences of many today. Like all pre-teens, Jesus tried to do something on his own, only to hear his Mother question him.
Jesus learned obedience from what He suffered and suffer he did! He met with criticism, threats, mockery, misunderstanding, denial, and betrayal. He treasured moments with children and learned from His Mother to respond to God’s will. He called others to follow Him, passing on His mission so that all would know of His love.
Jesus opened his heart to those He called and recognized good while correcting evil. He left us the Eucharist to strengthen us once He was no longer with us physically. Finally, He offered Himself to save us, and did so through crucifixion, leaving signs and promises of hope. Triumphantly, Jesus moved the sepulcher stone that wicked leaders believed squelch His Mission. And He continues to move those stones that cause hurt in our lives.
All we need to do is go to Him, tell Him what is in our hearts, and pray for all. Then listen to His response that comes through His Word, others, and Nature. Listen to the message of the Resurrection, “Peace be with you,” (John 20:20). Repeat it until you realize His Presence in you.
