Welcome to November and to that wonderful time of year…HOLIDAYS as well as HOLY DAYS! As we just recently celebrated two of the Church’s special days, All Saints and All Souls Day, I can’t think of a better way to remember those who have gone before us (all souls) or are living with us (Deceased as well as living Saints)! All Saints Day Mass was locally celebrated by Msgr. Bennett, and I told him I would like to share part of his homily, to which he graciously gave approval.
For people with an ‘A’ type personality, their address book is already out, and they are creating labels for their Christmas Cards! That is not a joke. Anyway, it led me to think about the address book Monsignor spoke about.
It is this book that designates the people that are important to us, and that we care about. Hopefully, it is the ones who will stay with us through thick and thin. These wonderful people like the Saints have their faults but there is more to them than that. Monsignor reminded us that together we make our way to the home of our Father. Together, we make it through rough, as well as great times. Together we spread the good news of the Gospel.
I am also sure that in your book, you have crossed out, changed addresses, and deleted some names. People and time changes and so do our lists. In one way or another these people have influenced our lives, and we need to use this month to remember and be grateful for them.
Think about this, when you die and go to heaven holding your address book (or phone) and God says, ‘what do you have there’? You respond, ‘oh just my address book.’ God then responds, ‘Oh yes I just saw a group of your friends and family on the way to you and they were creating a sign saying WELCOME HOME.’
Take some time to review your address book (however you keep it) and pray for those listed in it. We need it to help us journey home. Go my friend and continue to make God look good.
Till next week.
