Happy feast of Our Lady of Mount Carmel! I almost forgot about that. I was thinking about part of a homily the local pastor gave yesterday regarding the characters that God picked to lead his people, Moses, a murder; Peter who denied him; and Paul who also persecuted the Christians. Father said they would not have been his first choice – thank God he is not God! There is hope for all of us.
On another note, Sunday we heard the story about the Good Samaritan. Do you also need a calculator to count all the times you have heard or shared the story to explain a point? Most of the time we look at the figure of the priest or the Levite who pass the beaten person by, or the good Samaritan. What if we looked at the image of the person who was beaten. I am sure every one of us can name a time when we were beaten down, whether it be physically, mentally, or spiritually. While you were in this state, did you experience loved ones or friends who didn’t recognize your pain and just kept on going with their life for a variety of reasons.
The Good Samaritan, in this case shall we say God comes to you and wants to care for you, help you along your journey and get you to your destination. What is your response to his reaching out to you? Do you want to remain stuck in your woundedness, or will you allow God to heal you? Are you willing to trust that the plans He has for you are only plans for the good?
Take the time this week to look at the person who was on a journey and how he accepted the help of a stranger. Are you ready to let go of hurts, insults etc. that have left you beaten down. God is so willing to love you into life. Will you let go of your own plans and trust Him! Take a good look at the wounded person see if you are willing to accept loving help from God.
Till next week,
Sister Theresita
