Wednesday Reflection - October 1, 2025

October 1, 2025

Dear Friends,

The other day, as I was traveling home, I passed an intersection I often do. There is a YIELD sign for the oncoming cars, and as many times as I have gone that way, NO ONE YIELDS! As I pulled up, the car that was supposed to yield did NOT. I said many a prayer for that person and thanksgiving that they did not hit me.

It got me thinking, and saying out loud, that YEILD means TO WAIT! That got me thinking about this week’s reflection, and since I needed a theme for it, WAITING seemed like a good one. The affirmation came the next day when I received an email with a reflection about waiting.

The reflection was about David and how waiting was the most challenging part of his life. The gist of it was that the whole time he waited for God to act in his life, God was already doing it. What was even more difficult was that his family didn’t recognize his potential, even after Samuel’s anointing as king. David went straight back to the sheep. For all his waiting, he was rewarded. Enough about David, what about you?

Have you ever waited for a promotion at work, for instance, and been passed over? What about waiting to visit with a dear friend and canceled plans? Or waiting for a scholarship, a child, a creative opportunity, or just a break in your health situation. We all know that waiting can cause uncertainty, impatience, loss of control, doubt, and even comparison. Scripture teaches us that waiting isn’t wasted time; it’s a time of preparation. Let’s look at a few:

Isaiah 40:31“But those who wait for the Lord shall renew their strength, they shall mount up with wings like eagles, they shall run and not be weary, they shall walk and not faint.

(Waiting can renew us instead of draining us when we lean on God.)

Psalm 27:14“Wait for the Lord; be strong, and let your heart take courage; wait for the Lord!”

( A reminder that waiting takes courage, not passivity.)

Romans 8:25“But if we hope for what we do not see, we wait for it with patience.

( Waiting is tied to hope — believing before we see.)

Psalm 37:7“Be still before the Lord, and wait patiently for him; do not fret over those who prosper in their way, over those who carry out evil devices.

( Waiting calls us to peace and trust, not comparison.)

Habakkuk 2:3For the vision still has its time, presses on to fulfillment, and will not disappoint; if it delays, wait for it, it will surely come, it will not be late.

(God’s promises may seem delayed, but never abandoned.)

In one way, the non-yielding car gave me a lot to think about. I hope these passages help you wait for the GOOD that the Lord is planning for you. Have a yielding week!

Till next week, Sister Theresita
