Have you ever wondered why only one of the lepers returned to thank Jesus? Or why were the other nine doing what Jesus told them to do? As I pondered this question, the thought occurred to me that they were cured on their way and were only focused on being accepted, no longer ostracized. Could it be that the leper who returned felt deep inside that another healing had taken place and believed it was more important to return to give thanks to Jesus, rather than receiving affirmation from the priests?
So, that got me asking myself. Do I, like the nine, take things for granted, and pay more attention to doing what I’m supposed to do and seeking affirmation from others? Or do I pause now and then to appreciate my gifts, my friends, and the many graces I receive? Do I stop to say “Thank You” for the countless little miracles around me? Perhaps I need to be more like that one leper and change my attitude to one of gratitude.
