How many of you out there like to cook? I for one love to cook and actually like doing the prep work. How do you feel about recipes? Experience has taught me that the same recipe can be put together in different ways by different people, and you know what, it is ALL good.
So, where am I going with all this talk about recipes? This past Sunday I was meeting with a couple regarding their twin’s Baptism. A hard-working family that really wants their children to have a deep relationship with God. As we were talking the mom asked me, (because I meet with many families,) if there was a recipe for a good family life? She wanted to know, “Is there a recipe for teaching their children about God?” I have to say that the question was a great one and were it not for the Holy Spirit I would not have been able to answer her. I thoughtfully said, “The recipe is to desire the recipe.” So, you see, each recipe is completed differently based on the desires and wants the family has. They genuinely wanted God to be a big part of their family’s life. I was blessed to have been with them.
My second recipe maker was the wife of a dear friend. Her name is Sydney. Recently she shared a witness talk to those who attended special time of Eucharistic Adoration. A brief summary of what she shared is that Sydney is a convert and while going through RCIA she struggled when her cancer returned. It was during this time that her best recipe for peace and support was at the parishes’ Eucharistic Adoration Chapel. Sydney has spent many hours before the Blessed Sacrament, after difficult procedures, treatments, and operations. She spoke of her love of Jesus in the Eucharist and how in the hardest of times He is always with her. Her love for Jesus in the Eucharist is her recipe for a deep relationship with God.
So, you see there are many recipes, what is important is that we desire the recipe. Our Church offers us many ways to make the recipe, whether it be through Eucharistic Adoration, praying the rosary, walking in Nature, or learning from and with other recipe people. Do you desire the recipe? What will be your ingredients? Use this week to gather them and MAKE the recipe.
Till next week,
Sister Theresita
