May 1: Wednesday Reflection

May 1, 2019

Dear Friends,

Have you heard this expression: “If you are happy, please notify your face!”? I read it a long time ago and have recently seen it again. That one sentence says a lot.

I think, perhaps, that was what Thomas the Apostle was thinking when he saw the other Apostles after the Resurrection and he had missed Jesus appearing to them. If you are rejoicing and have seen the Lord, why don’t your faces show it and why are we still behind locked doors?

Those are some valid questions. Why do you or I doubt at times that Jesus is truly present in our lives? Could it be that we see so many “sad” Catholics around us? Shouldn’t we be on fire after experiencing Easter Sunday? What is holding us back? Why are we so timid to speak of the God who loves us so much that he sent his only Son to redeem us? What locked doors are holding us back?

It seems to me that we have become people walking in a coma like state, neither hot nor cold. We know what Jesus said about that! Is our faith life a priority? Does spiritual growth continue to take place in our hearts? Too often, we lock ourselves behind the door of complacency or of fear of what people will say.

My hope is that if we are on fire and have notified our face, people will say, “Now, that person is truly alive!” I know that is how I feel when I greet someone who is beaming and just can’t wait to share the good news of the Resurrection. Hopefully during this coming week you can unlock doors and notify your face of the JOY within!

Till next week,

Sister Theresita

P.S. Please join me in praying for all the children who will be receiving First Holy Communion in these coming weeks. May they be on fire with His love!
