Gospel reflection: June 9, 2019 - Pentecost

June 8, 2019

JN 20:19-23

Before Jesus ascended into heaven he told his apostles to remain in the city until they were clothed with power from on high and witness to the world all he did and taught. The apostles stayed and prayed together as the first Christian community.

Today we celebrate Pentecost. Like the apostles we are together as the Body of Christ sent to be his witnesses in the world. We are sent to bring consolation to those who are sad, assistance to those in need, justice to those who suffer injustice, healing to those who suffer in mind, body or spirit. The Holy Spirit is our strength and guide on our way - encouraging us to follow Jesus and bring the good news to those with whom we live and minister. Through the power of the Holy Spirit we become the human expression of Jesus’ love. To whom is he sending you? Who needs your love and compassion today?
