July 3: Wednesday Reflection

July 3, 2019

Dear friends,

This past week, while I was doing an errand with a friend, we started talking about social media -- Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. Both of us are on Facebook. My friend asked me about Twitter. I must admit I don’t have an account and don’t know much about it, but I glibly answered, “I don’t want to follow anyone else but Jesus!” We both laughed at first and then I began to think about what I had said.

As a follower of Jesus, do I take the time to follow his “tweets” found in the Gospel? Do the words I hear being read at Mass and during my own prayer time set my heart on fire to spread the Kingdom? Do Jesus’ words and example help me to become more compassionate, thoughtful, patient, hopeful, courageous, and alive? My guess is that folks follow people’s tweets to know where they are, what they are up to, or what they think about a topic/situation. What would happen if we followed Jesus’ “tweets” instead of the latest social media influencer?

Scripture certainly can help us do that. We get all sorts of information on how to be a better follower, hear what Jesus would do in a certain situation, and are always reassured that Jesus is there for us. In Matthew 11:25 -30 we hear, “Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened and I will give you rest…” There is such a richness in the Scripture “tweets.” Sometimes I think I take them for granted and say, “Oh I have heard that before.” Perhaps I need to follow these “tweets” as excitedly as those who listen and follow celebrities, athletes, business people, and friends’ tweets.

Today at Mass we sang, “Lead me Lord, lead me Lord, by the light of truth to seek and to find the narrow way. Be my way, be my truth, be my life my Lord and lead me Lord today.” (John Becker, “Lead me, Lord”). I think I will keep this “tweet” before me for a few days. I have nothing against Twitter or other social media; I just think I’ll follow the Jesus “tweets” for now!

Wishing you a great week and praying that encouraging tweets will come your way this week. As a matter of fact, why not share some of those positive messages with those who are close to you?

Hugs,
Sister Theresita

P.S. Happy Fourth of July! Please continue to keep our sisters who are at our General Chapter in Rome in prayer so they can hear the tweets the Spirit is sending them. And if you’d like to see and hear the positive messages we share regularly on social media, be sure to follow Jesus first, then check out our posts on Facebook (@csfn.usa), Instagram (@csfn.usa), and Twitter (@csfn_usa).

Would you like our sisters to pray for your intentions? Send us a prayer request.
