On Saturday, September 19 in Grand Prairie, TX, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth welcomed Katie Shelton as an affiliate of the Congregation. Over the next year, Katie will live with our sisters at the House of Discernment in Richardson, TX as she discerns her call to religious life.
Katie says she first “felt the Holy Spirit tug” at her when she met Sr. Malgorzata (Margo) Majszczyk, CSFN, and Sr. Josephine Garrett, CSFN, at a young adults’ retreat. “I was just beginning to question my vocation and seeking to understand what the Lord was asking of me when, out of nowhere, these two sisters came swooping in with so much joy and exuberance.” While the charm and vibrancy of these two sisters inspired Katie to learn more about what it means to be a Catholic sister, she was drawn to our Congregation because “as a community, [the sisters] reflect so many of my desires to imitate the self-giving love found in the Holy Family of Nazareth.”
Katie says she was “initially very nervous” at her first discernment retreat with our sisters. But that nervousness quickly dissipated. “I felt a deep peace in my heart as it rested in Jesus, the spirit of the other sisters, and their loving hospitality,” she says.
From Stephenville, TX, Katie holds a BFA in communication design and has worked in the creative design world for almost six years. She also loves adventure whether it’s hiking a new trail, reading a new book, or finding a perfect coffee shop.
Please join us in praying for Katie as she continues the adventure of listening for God’s voice in her life.
