We are not God’s equal. His love is completely beyond any of our human understanding. With this being said, Jesus presents to us in this Sunday’s Gospel the challenge to love with our whole heart, our whole mind, our whole soul and indeed, our whole selves. This is a challenge which Jesus knows we can strive to attain, but He also understands our human nature very well. The weaknesses we each have may seem to hold us back, but we MUST work to reach down deep in our being and bring the LOVE of God to the forefront in every action and every thought.
Because of our sharing in God’s divine nature through Baptism we have the ability to love God back and to share this love with many others with whom we come in contact. We do this for the greater honor and glory of Him who plants the ability within us to reach holiness and practice charity. WE CANNOT RELY ON OURSELVES TO ACCOMPLISH THESE TASKS AND MEET THESE CHALLENGES. We must pray, reflect, celebrate the relationship of friendship we have with our all knowing, all loving and all powerful God and Father. We must meet Jesus in the events of our lives, in His Word and in His Sacraments. Let us dedicate ourselves ever more each day to walking the journey of love with Jesus, friend, brother, guide and example of HOW to make love of God and love of neighbor truly a reality. This world needs you and me to do this. Accept the challenge this day!
