Gospel Reflection: Feb. 28, 2021 – 2nd Sunday of Lent

February 28, 2021

Mk 9:2-10

Today we hear the Father’s words: “This is my beloved Son in whom I am well pleased.” Jesus is present with His Father’s affirmation and the Holy Spirit confirms this glorious moment. The three members of the Holy Trinity are living their family life and interacting with one another during this holy moment on the mountain.

We must reflect upon the truth that our belief in God can never be separated from our belief in the Son, whom the Father sent. WE MUST LISTEN TO HIM – in our hearts, in our minds, in our prayer, in our interactions with others, in creation, and in worship! He is our brother and our brother is the complete revelation of God, the Father. This truth is affirmed at the Transfiguration.

The Transfiguration gives us all a foretaste of the glory which will follow the cross. Life is filled with moments which are crucifixion events in the lives of human beings. The current pandemic has been and continues to be a challenge among these moments. Each person has been touched by the virus, even if they have not suffered from it physically. Beyond this time, this place, will come the glory promised by God, His Son, and His Spirit. We will join in their family life fully one day. Now, we can join them through Word, through Sacrament, and through daily experiences of their presence and their providence.

Let us go forth this day to LISTEN to the Son and follow HIS life of love and service.
