Dear Friends,
On Sunday March 29th, we will be celebrating Palm Sunday and the beginning of our Holy Week celebrations. As I was thinking of this the song from Jesus Christ Super Star came to mind:
Hosanna
Hey Sanna Sanna Sanna Hosanna
Hey Sanna Hosanna
Hey JC, JC you're alright by me
Sanna Hosanna
Hey Superstar
Having the gift of hindsight, we know that the joy of that day turned to sadness by Friday. If you remember last Sunday’s Gospel, Jesus is preparing himself and the apostles for the days that are to come. “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified… And when I am lifted up from the earth, I will draw everyone to myself.”
I am sure that the Apostles were exhilarated with the reception of Jesus on his ride into Jerusalem; what they did not know was how the tide was going to change. Jesus stayed steady to the course, knowing full well that he was to do the will of his Father.
Before we enter into the Triduum, let’s look at Palm Sunday. There was a lot of joy and exuberance filling that day. The shouts, the palms and the cloaks thrown on the ground... It was as if a king was returning from a battle with a victory in hand. Our King was entering with the battle yet to be fought. There would be Victory, victory over Death. The road would be long and hard and done for love of ALL of us. All of this was yet to come in the following days.
Have you experienced any Palm Sundays in your life? Can you name them, reflect on them? Then as time passed on, was there a Good Friday that found its way into your life? How did you handle that? We know that along with the joys, some sorrow can and will enter our lives. How do we greet both? Do we greet with the same willingness to enter into what is happening, or do we praise one and curse the other?
These are just some things to think about as we get ready to celebrate Holy Thursday, Good Friday, and Easter. May these last days of Lent be as prayerful as they can be. Know you are blessed, and continue to be grateful.
Till next week,
Sister Theresita
