“The cup of blessing that we bless, is it not a participation in the blood of Christ? The bread that we break, is it not a participation in the body of Christ? Because the loaf of bread is one, we, though many, are one body, for we all partake of one loaf.” (1 Corinthians 10:16-17)
This reading from St. Paul’s first letter to the Corinthians urges us to take, eat and participate. Every time we do this in memory of Lord Jesus Christ, we say “yes” and allow His Body and Blood to change us from the inside out. By our wholehearted participation, we truly become that “sacrament of love”, that healing touch of Christ to all.
On this Holy Thursday, let our prayer be to open our eyes and hearts to see our Lord’s presence in one another. May we allow His life, poured out in love to unite us all, to change every cell in our bodies so that we may finally become what we eat and be a genuine sign of Christ’s presence to all.
