Gospel Reflection: August 29, 2021 – 22nd Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 29, 2021

Mark 7:1-8, 14-15, 21-23

Jesus reminds us to look within ourselves, into our hearts, and remember that God’s goodness is within us, ready to be shared with other people. As temples of the Holy Spirit, the gifts of wisdom, understanding, counsel, fortitude, knowledge, reverence, wonder, and awe are parts of our spiritual reservoir and we can offer these gifts to our family, friends, and neighbors as we witness the love of God.

In a simple word or gesture offered to someone we have encountered, we share the Holy Spirit’s power and goodness. One kind act on our part may change another’s life for good!

In the choices we make and help others to make to be kind and supportive, we defeat the power of the evil one and spread the Kingdom of peace and love. To act with kindness, love, and fairness is so much needed to bring the power of God to a world which suffers daily from violence, hatred, and discrimination.

Loving Father, may we always seek the wisdom of your Spirit, because we need you to help us live your command of love as your Son showed us the way.
