Gospel Reflection: March 27, 2022 - Fourth Sunday in Lent

March 26, 2022

Luke 15: 11-32

Father, let me have the share of the estate that will come to me”.  On the face of the Father, there was a look of stabbing pain. He is still letting him go and his decision was coming from his loving heart.

The Father’s heart is the one that is waiting. I look into his eyes. Words are not needed to see how tenderly he loves. There is a special place for each of his children. There is a deep desire to see them all by his side, especially the one who was away.

The Father’s heart is the one who can see when we are still a long way off, and he runs. Seeing his lost child coming back home, he runs to meet him where he is. His arms finally can rest on his son’s shoulders. His heart, which ached for his lost son, is now singing a song. What song? If you listen long enough, with an open heart and a readiness to run, you will hear it. You will hear the most beautiful song you ever heard. You can hear it only with the heart. Only those who hear with the heart can join the welcoming party.

Am I ready to enter, rejoice and dance with others? The Father is still looking for those who don’t hear the song and don’t know how to celebrate; those who don’t see a brother who returns while he is still a long way off. He is willing to meet them outside of his house. He is piercing them with his amazing words of love: “My child, you are always with me.” If I allow these words to enter into my heart, I will know the Father and I will be known by him. I will know that everything that is his, belongs to me as well.
