May 23: Wednesday Reflection

May 23, 2018

Dear Friends,

It is that time of the year when all of the season finales are taking place for most of the TV shows. With that in mind, let’s look at the Church season. Ascension Thursday and Pentecost bring the Easter season to an end, but like the TV shows, there is that little tag line “to be continued…”

As I watched some of my favorite shows come to the end of the season, there were times that I was not pleased with what I saw and didn’t want to wait for the new season to come. I want to know now what is going to happen.

Somehow I think the Apostles and Mary may have felt the same way -- it was not the time or the way they would have ended their time with Jesus. And yet, God has His own timeline. There is a bigger picture and plan out there. God is in charge.

I truly believe that most of us want what we want when we want it. Yet this may not be on the same timeline as God’s plan. For some of us, it is very difficult to wait for God’s timing. We want to know NOW what is going to happen. How do we handle that?

The Apostles and Mary needed to say goodbye to Jesus, then wait for the Holy Spirit. They didn’t know when the Spirit would come, but they had faith it would happen even though they were scared. It is easy for us to look back and say the Spirit came upon them. But, while they were waiting, they had no idea how long it would take.

Faith, courage, prayer, patience -- all of these helped them wait for the Spirit and to wait for the “new season” to begin. Pentecost became a new beginning for them, and they didn’t plan it -- God did. This gives me hope when sometimes I don’t understand different things that are happening in my own life, my family’s life, my community life. Am I willing to let God’s time evolve and trust in His plan?

Sometimes I think we can become too comfortable and want to go back to our timeline. How do you and I stay within the timeline of God and wait to see how things will turn out? As difficult as it may be, prayer and faith can help us through. During this week, checkout the “to be continued” moments in your life and truly strive to believe that God’s timeline is in play. The “new season” is going to be wonderful!

Till next week,

Sister Theresita
