Happy Easter Season, and the Octave of Easter! Who else but the Church would give us fifty days to celebrate the Resurrection of the Lord Jesus? I just love the readings and meetings of Jesus with different people in special places; don’t hesitate to take it all in!
This season calls us to be witnesses in countless ways. Mary Magdalene was one of the first witnesses. She couldn’t wait to run and tell the Apostles that Jesus was alive. There was no fear in Mary; she continued to spread the Good News of the Resurrection without hesitation. She stood up for what she saw, she believed, and she harnessed all her Joy to proclaim the Good News to those she encountered.
I once read the idea that Jesus did not put us in the Witness Protection plan. In proclaiming the Good News, we may still come up against some resistance. Think of the soldiers that first witnessed the event; they didn’t proclaim that Jesus rose from the dead. Out of fear, they said nothing. In contrast, Mary’s great joy was infectious, and at that time the world really needed it.
What about today?
Sometimes I feel that we all think we belong to the Witness Protection plan and fail to joyfully spread the Good News, perhaps in order to avoid possible conflict. How do we break forth from that tomb of fear and spread the joyful news?
Each one of us has to answer that question for ourselves, as each of us has our own new path to follow to bring joy into a world very much in need.
Enjoy this joyful season, and credibly witness the joy of the Resurrection in all you do!
Till next week,
Sister Theresita
