Reflecting on today’s Gospel, Matthew 11:25-30, gives we comfort, especially the last part:
"Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened,
and I will give you rest.
Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am meek and humble of heart;
and you will find rest for yourselves.
For my yoke is easy, and my burden light."
I am always struck by these words of Jesus because he does not tell us that he will take away our burden. Rather, he tells us that he is with us and will give us rest in the midst of our struggles. He gives us assurance that, if we rest in him and turn everything over to him, he will help us to carry whatever it is that burdens us.
Jesus recognizes that some of the greatest lessons in our lives and the moments that most profoundly form our character are those which challenge us. To become the people we are called to be, we must stay in the fray and not be faint of heart. That is why Jesus lets us lean on his Sacred Heart; all we need do is trust in him.
