Mark 1:40-45
In today’s Gospel, Jesus heals the leper and tells him to show himself to the priest and not to tell anyone who healed him.
On Wednesday we begin Lent and this Gospel is a perfect way to reflect on what God is calling me to. Like the leper, I need to step away from my fears, anxieties, and weaknesses, willingly face them and bring them to Jesus. To bring those areas of my life that I hide, where I prefer not to show my true self to others, where I feel comfortable and often avoid seeing the suffering of others because I am all wrapped up in my own.
As we begin this Lenten journey of healing – like the leper we can come before Jesus saying … “If you will, you can make me clean.” In his compassionate love we will hear in return… “I do will it be healed” and feel his gentle healing touch.
By the end of our Lenten Journey, we can repeat today’s psalm response. “I turn to you, Lord in time of trouble and you fill me with the joy of salvation.”
