August 8: Wednesday Reflection

August 8, 2018

Dear Friends,

Don’t ever doubt that God has a sense of humor. As I was preparing to write this reflection, I remembered a newer song that I heard on a Christian station. The song is “Dream Small,” by Josh Wilson. To my delight, while attending our National Assembly, Sr. Barbara Jean, our outgoing Provincial Superior, used it as part of her closing remarks. So, I guess I was supposed to use it in this reflection.

I share with you the refrain and the link so that you can listen to the complete song if you are not familiar with it.

“So dream Small

Don’t bother like you‘ve gotta do it all.

Just let Jesus use you where you are

One day at a time.”

--Josh Wilson

These words ring so true of the example of the Holy Family who lived an ordinary life in an extraordinary way. Simplicity and faithfulness were their common virtues. I can picture Mary helping a mom who is struggling with three children in the marketplace. I am also sure that Joseph helped a neighbor fix a table that was in need of repair. And Jesus, well, just use your imagination.  There is nothing wrong with having big dreams and goals but we are encouraged not to miss the small things that we can do as they too can change the world.

Am I able to live my ordinary life in an extraordinary way? Am I satisfied with the small things that I do for others, perhaps unnoticed? Am I able to list and bless the small things that I accomplish each day? We need to be grateful for all that is in our lives. I would venture to guess that if you reflected on a day you would be surprised how many small things you accomplished. They all make a difference.

My challenge for you this week is to “Dream Small” and look at all that you do during a 24-hour period that affects others. Changes take place one step at a time. If you can take the time to listen to the song in its entirety, I think you will come away feeling blessed and proud of what God is doing in and with your life. So my friend “Dream Small” and know that God is with you through it all.

Till next week,

Sister Theresita
