John 6:1-15
All roads lead to ….Indianapolis, Indiana. Not 5,000 but a multitude of 50,000 plus made their way from four corners of America to the symbolic mountain of Lucas Oil Stadium. They came to show how deeply they believe in the real presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament. Whether you were there in person or watched on EWTN, you had to be touched in some positive way. Perhaps even changed in some respect.
In today’s Gospel, we hear of the miracle Jesus performed for the hungry crowd of people as He told Phillip to have them sit down and give them something to eat. They came from many cities and wanted to know, how could they possibly fulfill this command?
Jesus knew and as Philip discovered a boy who had five loaves of bread and two fish, Jesus blessed the food and told the Apostles to feed the people. And they did and were fed and satisfied.
At the National Eucharistic Congress this past week, that is just what happened. Thousands of people: men, women, teens, children were fed with either the Words of Jesus or the Sacrament of Holy Communion. They prayed, listened, cheered, processed, sang and had sacred moments of quietude to spend with Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament.
The intent of the Eucharistic Congress was to revive, renew Catholic belief in the real presence of Jesus in the Blessed Sacrament of Eucharist and from the huge cheering positive response of the crowd to Bishop Couzzsens’s question, “Do you think we should have an eleventh Congress?”
This surely tells us and the world how successful this Holy Experience was for all who attended or watched on TV.
Perhaps today we can pause a few moments and in the quietude of our space, reflect on our own personal relationship with Jesus in Holy Communion. He is there waiting every day to feed your soul, to strengthen your faith in His real presence within you and the Blessed Sacrament.
