Driving and observing all the wonders of creation around me is a happy place for me. Recently while I was experiencing the last of the fall colors, this thought came to mind, “I get to celebrate three new years and beginnings. Frist, the January 1st one, second when the school year begins in September, and lastly the season of Advent, which this year begins the new liturgical year on December 1st. These three times of the year give me an opportunity to take a look at what is going on in my life, especially spiritually.
Most of us make New Year’s resolutions, and again in September when it is time to let go of our relaxed schedule. Advent is a time that can get lost in the business of Christmas preparation. But it is the beginning of our church year, an opportunity to take stock in our lives. Advent is really an invitation to actually slow down and look more deeply at our relationship with God and the true meaning of Christmas – God Made Man for us.
I urge you as we prepare to enter into the Advent season, let us shift our focus to Spiritual Renewal, Hope and Joy, the richness of the prayers, readings, and biblical prophecies. It is a time to foster a deep sense of community and shared faith. What changes can you make so that you can spend more time truly preparing for the coming of Jesus? The Reason for the Season.
On another note, this Advent is especially important for my community, the Sisters of the Holy Family of Nazareth. We want to invite you to join us in celebrating our year of Jubilee, 150 years since the founding of our Congregation! With awe and gratitude, we recall the many women who dedicated their lives to Christ and spreading the Kingdom of God’s love through service to families. One way to join us is to recite this small part of our prayer to the Holy Family. May you recite it many times and may it bring Peace, Joy, and Hope to you and your family. Have a wonder filled Advent!
O Holy Family, bless and protect all the families of the world; safeguard their unity, fidelity, integrity, and dignity. Enable them to live according to God’s law that they may fulfill their sublime vocation. May their lives be a reflection of yours and may they enjoy your presence forever in heaven. Amen
Till next week,
Sister Theresita
