Gospel: Luke 11:1-13
In today’s gospel, Jesus tells a parable that shows God’s love and generosity. Late at night, an unexpected guest arrives at a man’s house. He has nothing to offer his guest, so he seeks help from his neighbor. It is not surprising that the neighbor is reluctant to offer any help. However, because the man’s plea is relentless, he chooses to open the door and offer help.
Often in times of stress, fear, or anxiety, we like the man in the parable turn to God for help. God, like the neighbor sees our need and lovingly opens the door. In the parable Jesus challenges us to see that the Father may test us in unexpected ways and that we do not need to bargain, beg, or badger.
We do not need to keep asking God to change his mind, but to faithfully pray that God will change us. May our hearts be open to others, reflecting God’s love and generosity.
