Gospel Reflection: August 24, 2025 - 21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

August 24, 2025

21st Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Luke 13:22-30

As usual Jesus doesn’t respond to the question “will only a few be saved” directly, rather he explains who will not enter heaven.

As I was reflecting on Jesus’ words, I wondered will the door be opened to me when I knock?  Will Jesus know me? This leads me to realize, entering a narrow gate entails struggles and some effort on my part. In order to enter, I will need to accept the struggles in life, to make a sincere effort to listen deeply to his words and follow them. It will require me to put others’ needs before my own.

Trusting in Jesus’ promise, and my sincere effort, I will be one of those from all over the world who will enter heaven. With all this in mind, struggling through the narrow gate seems a little easier because I know I won’t be alone, I will be following his advice in letting him get to know me!
