25th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Luke 16:1-13

The entrance antiphon for the 25th Sunday in Ordinary Time lets us know how God responds to those who cry to Him in any distress. I will hear them, and I will be their Lord forever. Amos reminds us of the same truth when he tells us that the Lord has sworn by the pride of Jacob reminding us that our God will never forget what we have done to God or to our neighbor or even to those we encounter in our dealings of buying or selling of property and goods.

It seems that the Lord listened to the heart of the steward described in the gospel who tried to reach out to his masters’ debtors with compassion and honesty, trying to respond with some pity for them as well as for his own future. Who knows the mind and heart of God or of our neighbor? Let us respond to others in honesty and compassion and leave the rest to our merciful, loving God.
