Gospel Reflection: September 28, 2025 - 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 28, 2025

26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

Gospel: Luke 16:19-31

The reading from the prophet Amos and the Gospel this weekend focus on the importance of taking care of those around us, especially those who may not have the goods of this world and those who seem to be lowly in the world’s eyes. In addition, we must reflect upon the need for being good stewards of the talents, possessions, and resources with which we have been blessed.
Time, talent, and treasure are not our own. They belong to God. It is our duty to give back to God all that we can each day. In this way, we practice stewardship and follow Jesus’ teaching to live according to the values of His Gospel of life, love, and hope.
Paul emphasizes the importance of prayer, and in particular, he asks for prayer for those in authority. This was crucial in Paul’s time, and it is equally crucial in our own time. We live in times of division, political, and social unrest and instability. Those who win authority can help others to find internal and external peace if they lead with the ways and wisdom of God. For this grace for everyone who earns authority, we can all pray. Let us resolve to do that this weekend, and perhaps our offering of prayer, combined with sacrifice, will let peace begin to reign.
A final consideration is to spend a few moments reading the Sacred Scriptures. Open the Bible randomly to a page and consider that passage to be what God wants you to read and hear that day. God’s wisdom will be with you.
