Holy Family Institute Honors 125 Years of Compassion

On Saturday, September 13, Holy Family Institute (HFI) celebrated a remarkable milestone: 125 years of faithfully serving children, families, and communities in the Pittsburgh area. Surrounded by friends, supporters, staff, and family, Sisters gathered in joy and thanksgiving to celebrate the occasion.

The celebration began with Mass at Duquesne University Chapel of the Holy Spirit, celebrated by Fr. John Fogarty, C.S.Sp. The Duquesne University Choir, together with several of our Sisters, provided the music for the liturgy. The festivities continued with a reception following Mass.

This celebration was not only a gesture of gratitude for all that has occurred in the past 125 years. It marked the beginning of a new chapter as Michael Sexauer was joyfully welcomed as the new CEO. May his passion and commitment lead future generations in the mission of supporting families. A moving tribute was made for the remarkable legacy of Sr. Linda Yankoski, honoring her decades of leadership and dedication. Sister Linda will transition to the role of President Emerita / Director of Mission Integration, continuing her deep commitment to serving children and families.

During the evening, several remarkable individuals were recognized for embodying the values of compassion, solidarity, and service that lie at the heart of Holy Family Institute's mission. The Spirit of Family Awards were presented to Rosemary L. Corsetti and Vincent DeChellis, Fran and Paula Daily, and Jim and Gretchen Haggerty, three dedicated board members and their spouses, who have shown extraordinary leadership and unwavering support.

The evening was rich with communion, heartfelt stories, and renewed commitment. What started as a tiny mustard seed, a refuge for orphans, has grown over the years into a network of programs that reaches out to children, youth, and families. As we reflect on 125 years, we give thanks for the first 'yes' to care for the children dropped off at the Sisters' doorstep and for every life touched by HFI, every staff member who labored with care, and every supporter whose generosity made our mission possible from 1900 to 2025.
