Dear Friends,
Has a vegetable ever led you into prayer? Well, guess what! The other day, while I was chopping some fresh cabbage, I decided to cut out the core, because it would be easier to continue with my task. As I did that, I realized that the cabbage began to fall apart. It made me stop and think, if Jesus is the core of my life and I cut him out, I will surely fall apart, which would not be good, especially for those around me!
I continued cutting and praying and thought about ways that I cut Jesus out of my life. For instance, when I act without prayer, when I let resentment take hold of me, when business fills my life, when I seek others’ approval above God’s, and when I separate my faith life from my ordinary life. Can you tell it was a big head of cabbage?
Wow, and these are only a few ways we cut out the core of our being, Jesus? What about you? Do any of these ways strike a chord with you? Do you make decisions without taking them to prayer? Do you refuse to forgive someone who has hurt you, not allowing Jesus’ mercy to flow through you? Do you stop your business so you can remain still and hear Jesus speaking to you? Do you desire to please others rather than stay faithful to Jesus? Lastly, do you keep your relationship with Jesus on a Sunday morning basis, instead of connecting with Him throughout each and every day?
Lots of questions, and food, no pun intended, for thought. Awareness of Jesus' presence at the core of our lives can lead to some compelling and prayerful moments. Next time you are making a meal, see if the vegetables bring you closer to Jesus. My cabbage did!
Till next week,
Sister Theresita
