Gospel Reflection: November 30, 2025 - Let the Light of Our Faith Shine Forth

November 30, 2025

In the reflection book I use for our daily readings, I looked at the picture before today’s readings. It shows a simple light fixture hanging alone with a single light burning in the center of the page. No words. No human faces, no figures, no background. Just one light! It doesn’t seem like much, I thought to myself. A waste of a page!

After I read the first two Scripture readings from Isaiah and Romans for our Liturgy, I stopped to ponder that one little light fixture a bit longer. I thought to myself, if that simple light is the light of the Lord, it may be too powerful for words. If that one light represents the armor we are to put on, it might be too heavy and too much to take on. And if that one light is to remind me that I am to put on the Lord Jesus Christ, then I am completely overwhelmed by that one little light.

And yet I believe that is the invitation for us today: to let the light of our faith shine forth wherever we find ourselves: on the street corners, on the phone, in line at the supermarket, at the dining room table, with family or friends, or listening to the daily news. There is no place or no person that cannot be touched with the Lord Jesus Christ dwelling within our hearts.

Let us reflect. Let us stay receptive to the light of Christ within ourselves and others. And let us respond with faith and hope, imagining a new world illuminated by the Lord Jesus Christ.

As the song goes: This little light of mine, I’m gonna let it shine. Let it shine. Let it shine. Let it shine.
