Gospel Reading: Mt 3:13-17
“He shall bring forth justice to the nations, not crying out, not shouting, not making his voice heard in the street.” Is 42:1-2
What? Lord, you don’t make sense! How can I restore justice without calling out the injustice that I see? Families are being torn apart by instability, poverty, violence, and mental health crises. Children, born and unborn, the elderly, and the disabled, are ignored, discarded, and unvalued.
I must cry out!
Yes, child, cry out. Cry out to me. Lay bare your complaint before me. And then, get up, go on your way, for I have called you for the Victory of Justice. Not to condemn. Not to break. Not to smother. I have called you to shine as an example of love and justice to others by your deeds as well as your words. To shine with the light of MY Love and MY Truth.
Gently, open the eyes of the blind. Share stories, invite, encourage. Help people to encounter people. To encounter Me.
Bring prisoners out of confinement. Help them break the chains of indifference, paralyzation, fear, and blame.
But above all, bring those in the dungeon of despair, those trapped by the lies of the evil one, into the Radiant Dawn of a new day, brimming with possibility for small everyday acts of love, and for some of us, extraordinary heroic acts of sacrifice and self-gift.
For you are my chosen one, my Spirit is within you, and with you, I am well pleased.
