Seventeenth Sunday of Ordinary Time

Gospel Reading: Matthew 13:44-52

I invite us this Sunday to spend some time with our first reading from the First Book of Kings. Let us go away with God and hear God saying to us: Ask something of me, and I will give it to you. There is only you listening to God with your open heart and our loving God sharing with you.

As you listen to God’s request and you ponder your life in the present, what stirs within you from the depths of your heart? You may begin to wonder: Can this really be true? Is God really asking me to let His Spirit touch me in whatever way I choose? Or to permit His Spirit to enter any place I choose? Or even to interact with any person of my choice? Wow! What will I say to God who is waiting for my response?

Please take all the time you need to be open to God’s request of you at this time and this day. There is no rush.

As I prayed with Solomon and God today, I recalled Saint Ignatius Loyola and thought of his response to God: Give me only your love and your grace, that is enough for me.

And so I return to a time of prayer, to begin to offer some answer to our God who says to me: Ask something of me and I will give it to you. The world awaits my response and yours as well.
