Wednesday Reflection - September 9, 2026

September 9, 2026

Dear Friends,

Well, it is over! While the weather still says it’s summer, school and work schedules say otherwise. Hopefully you have had a chance to relax and are excited to begin this next chapter.

With that in mind, I would ask you to keep this quote from Parker Palmer in mind: “Self- care is never a selfish act – it is simply good stewardship of the only gift I have, the gift I was put on earth to offer others.” It’s kind of like the saying ‘put your own oxygen mask on first before helping others.’

Sometimes we become so overwhelmed with what we have to do that we forget to STOP, smell the roses, or relish an accomplishment. We need to remember that we need to not only to be there for others; we need to care for ourselves. Sometimes that means taking a 10-minute break when we become overwhelmed. Allowing ourselves to breathe and come to a place of calm. Allow yourself to be calm like the eye in the center of the storm.

Maybe it means stopping and saying a prayer to remind ourselves that God is as close to us as our jugular vein. When we take the time to put two fingers on that vein and feel the blood flowing, we know God is flowing through us, giving us life.

I love the way Parker puts it. This also means I may be moved out of my comfort zone to bring my gift to life, but that is what God created us for. There is a delicate balance between caring for others and for ourselves. For all the folks who find it hard to say NO, all of this can be a challenge. Yet I believe that all things will be accomplished if we stop - take that breather or whisper that prayer. Keep in mind that God created you so that you could share the gift of Him through your presence.

This week, take time to care for yourself amid all that might be happening around you. Place your fingers on your jugular when you doubt that God is with you. He is very close and has a purpose for you. Live life to the fullest; that was the promise. Help make this world better with your giftedness.

Till next week,

Sister Theresita Donach, CSFN

PS On Friday, let us keep in prayer all those who lost their lives on 9/11. Let us pray for their families and our country on this 25th Anniversary.

Would you like our sisters to pray for your intentions? Send us a prayer request.
