I know you have heard and possibly experienced people who march to the rhythm of their own drum. Well, let me tell you, I sometimes feel I fall into the category – happily, the people who experienced it are still alive!
As we age, a spiritual shift takes place. During my Annual retreat last week at Cormaria Retreat Center (Sag Harbor, NY), I have been learning to “Dance to God’s Music.” Like any other dance, it takes time to learn the steps, and we need to trust the lead and the music. A dancer knows that if you trust and follow the lead, All Things Are Possible!
So what keeps us from trusting the music? Sometimes there is so much exterior noise that we fail to hear the inner music that brings peace and trust. Have you ever found yourself in an explosive situation and said to yourself, I need to get out of here and find some peace and quiet? This is the moment to invite God into the situation. “Be still and know that I am God.”
I have been trying to learn all the steps to God’s Music, and each step becomes new and exciting. The dance takes me to different places, different adventures, new people, and more. As I write this, it is the feast of St. Hildegard of Bingen, and she learned later in life to stop hiding her light and let it shine for the sake of others.
During this week, reflect on whether you dance to the beat of your own drum or dance to God’s Music. My guess is you may want to learn more steps to the dance, as I am doing. Go for it! Keep dancing with God’s music even in the rain.
Till next week,
Sister Theresita
PS: September is ‘Encourage Someone Month.’ Why not send a note to a friend and thank them for helping you continue learning some of the dance steps.
