Gospel Reflection: Jan. 12, 2020 – The Feast of the Baptism of the Lord

January 11, 2020

MT 3:13-17

Today we reflect on what baptism meant for Jesus and what our baptism means for us. By our baptism we share God’s life within us and the ministry and mission of Jesus. We share in Jesus’ role of Priest, Prophet, and King. We received the gifts necessary to share God’s Word, help others to grow in holiness, enable others by our lives to experience God’s love, and to build the Kingdom of God.

Our baptismal gifts go much deeper than removing original sin, making us members of the Church, and daughters/sons of God. We are gifted with sharing Jesus’ ministry and mission as Priest, Prophet, and King. These gifts enable us by our faith and life to deepen and experience God’s love in order to share it with others. Daily, in our families, churches, workplace, schools, malls, and hospitals we are sent to be Christ. By our lives we become the presence of Christ and God’s “beloved daughters/sons”. What a marvelous gift!
