Some of our sisters in Philadelphia reached out to those in need by making and packing sandwiches for Mother of Mercy House, a mission of the Archdiocese of Philadelphia. Opened in 2015 in the Kensington neighborhood, an area hard hit by illicit drug use, poverty, and violent crime, Mother of Mercy House offers prayer, Bible study, sacraments for the homebound, counseling, support, and food assistance. Described as “a new kind of church” by the Catholic Philly, this ministry brings the presence of Christ to those often considered on the edges of society.
Divided into two working groups, our sisters made over 50 sandwiches, placing them in bags with chips, cookies, and bottled water. They plan to continue this volunteer service with the Mother of Mercy House on a monthly basis.
