Eucharistic Revival Update - July

July 6, 2024

Dear Friends,

Well, the time has finally arrived! Indianapolis is the place to be this month as tens of thousands gather for the 10th National Eucharistic Congress, July 17-21. The National Eucharistic Congress marks a transition from the Year of Parish Revival to the Year of Mission in which we all are called to be disciples on mission. The Year of Parish Revival was the opportunity to renew or deepen our personal relationship with our Eucharistic Lord. Now we are invited to share the fruits of this year and the events of this summer and bring Christ’s love to a world still hungering for it.

The planners have formulated an impressive five-day schedule for the Congress participants:

Wednesday, July 17 - From the Four Corners

  • Welcome Jesus to the Congress as the four pilgrimage routes converge at Lucas Oil Stadium
  • Keynote addresses from Bishop Andrew Cozzens and Sr. Bethany Madonna
  • Greetings from the Apostolic Nuncio to the United States, Christophe Cardinal Pierre

Thursday, July 18 - The Greatest Love Story

  • Morning impact sessions
  • Breakout sessions, family activities, liturgies, and exhibits
  • Talks in Lucas Oil Stadium by Fr. Mike Schmitz and Mother Olga of the Sacred Heart

Friday, July 19 - Into Gethsemane

  • Morning and afternoon sessions by noted speakers and musicians
  • A healing service presided by Fr. Boniface Hicks, OSB
  • A Eucharistic procession throughout Lucas Oil Stadium
  • An inspiring address on hope in our lives given by our own Sr. Josephine Garrett CSFN

Saturday, July 20 -This Is My Body

  • Morning and afternoon sessions focusing on rediscovering our identity as a disciple
  • A Eucharistic procession through downtown Indianapolis
  • An evening revival session with talks by Bishop Robert Barron, Gloria Purvis, and Jonathan Roumie and worship music provided by Matt Maher

Sunday, July 21 - To the Ends of the Earth

  • Keynote addresses by Chris Stefanick and Mother Adela Galindo
  • Commissioning ceremony for the Third Year of the National Eucharistic Revival: The Year of Mission
  • Closing liturgy celebrated by Papal Envoy Luis Cardinal Tagle, former archbishop of Manila and Pro-Prefect for the Section of Evangelization of Dicastery for Evangelization
  • Sending forth to proclaim the Gospel!

The Indianapolis Convention Center also will be a key site for activities and exhibits, including the Eucharistic Miracles Exhibit and a replica of the Shroud of Turin. There will be an opportunity to pray in the Reliquary Chapel and to feed the hungry by participating in the "Million Meal Movement." Choirs, musicians and even a Catholic magician will provide lively entertainment. Special activities for children will be available. The Convention Center will feature Catechesis of the Good Shepherd “atriums,” which are Montessori principle age-appropriate ways for children to encounter God.

1976 was a special year for one generation of Catholics as the United States marked its bicentennial year by hosting the 41st International Eucharistic Congress in Philadelphia. Now, 2024 has become a special year for a new generation of Catholics. The Holy Spirit is once again empowering Catholics to witness their faith in the Real Presence and invite others into relationship with Our Eucharistic Lord.

Certain sessions of the National Eucharistic Congress will be live streamed. Plans are underway. Up to date information can be located at https://www.eucharisticcongress.org/  Another streaming site for Congress events is https://www.ewtn.com/eucharist

Blessings in the Holy Family and through Our Eucharistic Lord,

Sister Marcella Louise Wallowicz CSFN
