Mark 6:7-13
As I read Sunday’s Gospel, it occurred to me that the only thing Jesus instructed the Apostles to take with them as they went out were sandals and a walking stick – the things they needed to remain on the path. Not the extra things you could find along the way; not those things that keep you comfortable; not even those things we might deem essential to survival, such as food (which we could find along the way). No, only those things which keep you on the path and moving forward in the direction God asks. It gave me pause to consider how distracted I get by those things that are not essential on my path.
