Gospel Reflection: September 29, 2024 – 26th Sunday in Ordinary Time

September 29, 2024

Mk 9:38-43, 45, 47-48

The readings this Sunday encourage a genuine, faithful living according to the wisdom of God and not the ways of this world. Human beings are often prevented from living faithfully because they seek to control their experiences and encounters with their own blurred vision and lack of openness to the purposes God has in His mind for them. The need to control one's way of living and thus, not allowing God to be God, causes many negatives to result: insincerity, prejudice, lack of understanding of others and so much more. We must remember that there is never a limit on the possibilities God places before each one of us each and every day. What is required is a prayerful and sincere willingness to “see” as God does and to “accept” the experiences as God’s design, individually selected for you or for me. In following God’s paths for us, we will then be able to live in compassionate concern for the “other” and be ready to respond to the grace of God, ALIVE within us, and “BE “the PRESENCE of Godfor those we meet. The question to answer today is: “Am I willing and ready to accept what God has in mind for me today including the surprising ways He sets before me? The surprises are sure to give way to many positive experiences with God and with others.

Surprise me, Dear Lord!
